Hridayananda Gogoi, born in Assam, India, starts his career as a
journalist in the early 90s. His stature as critic, poet and editor of
repute figures prominently in the field of Indian-Assamese literature. His
poems and fictions have been translated into several Indian languages. He
has written a good number of essays, both in Assamese and English. His
in-depth study and analytical perspectives always bothers in a different
way and helps readers to follow and understand different features and
outlook of the great Indian writers. He has published all together more
than twenty five books so far and participated in several National and
International Conferences in USA, UK, South Africa, Thailand, India and
other countries. His scholarly works include Study of Ramayana, World Peace
Initiatives and Humanities. He has been honored with numerous achievements.
He holds the post of Member of the Language Advisory Board of Sahitya
Akademi (2001-2012) for a consecutive two terms. He edits SWARNALIPI,
(A literary & socio-cultural magazine), North East Mail (an English
fortnightly) & www.asianviews.net.
His directorial debut “Rare Folk Songs
of Assam” established his intense visual style. The “Indigenous Songs of
Assam” proclaimed his genius to the world that has since applauded his
evocation of mood and melancholy with colors and sounds evident in the rich
treasures of beautiful blue land of rivers and hills. His latest creations
include films on some of other rare aspects of culture & humanities.
His poems in other languages, viz
English, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada and Oriya received appreciations for its
unique characteristics. He has also contributed many short stories. His
stories have been translated into Hindi and English. His biography Dr.
Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya, the first Assamese Jnanpith Awardee and the
recent book Adhunikotar Sandhanot Mamoni Raisom (the analytical study of
the fictional works of Dr. Indira Goswami, the second Assamese Jnanpith
Awardee) have received overwhelming response being the only book in its
genre. Earlier he served as Assistant Editor of Gariyoshi ,The Assam
Tribune; Member, Brahmaputra Board Citizen Charter; Joint Secretary, Assam
Academy for Cultural Relations, Guwahati, Finance Secretary, Cine Art
Society, Asom, Director Finance , Centre for Art, Peace & Progress of
North East India & South East Asian Relations (CAPNER), General
Secretary, International Conference on Ramayana, Guwahati.
At present he is also taking
responsibility as EC member, Assam Academy for Cultural Relations,
Guwahati, Member Trustee, Chandra Prasad Saikia Memorial Trust.
He has received several
recognitions including Sahitya Akademi Grant for the study of Kannada
Literature and Culture, (1996), Govt of India, Asom Sahitya Sabha Award,
(1999)' for his book “Galpa Aru Shilpa': The Best Short Stories of Four
Decades of Dr. Bhabendranath Saikia, Research Fellowship of Government of
India, (2000).
He has participated & presented papers in the 18th International
Ramayana Conference, Durban, South Africa, 2002, again in the 21st
International Ramayana Conference, New York, USA, 2005, and again in the
22nd International Ramayana Conference, Birmingham, UK, 2006.
His poetry presented in
International Multilingual Poetry Festival, Birmingham, UK, 2006, and paper
presented on “Relevance of Gandhi’s Philosophy and Nonviolence in achieving
Conflict Resolutions” in International Conference on Gandhi, Bangkok,
Thailand, 2007 received high appreciation.
He has Chaired an
International Session on “Gandhi’s Philosophy and Nonviolence” in
International Conference on Gandhi, organized by the Embassy of India in
Thailand, Bangkok, Thailand, 2007.
He has also Chaired
National Level Short Stories session at Ahmadabad in Western & Eastern
Writers Meet held by Sahitya Akedemi, June, 2008.
His participation &
presentations of the papers on “North East Poetry Today” at Porbondar,
Gujrat, in Western & Eastern Writers Meet held by Sahitya Akedemi,
July, 2008 and paper on “North East Literature Today” at Mumbai in Nov,
2008 received appreciations.
Visited:
In connection
with different international conferences Mr.Gogoi has visited several
countries including United States of America, United Kingdom, South Africa,
Thailand and UAE etc.
Organizing capacities:
Mr. Gogoi has
tremendous contributions in organizing several International & National
events during the past decades.
Other Activities:
Mr. Gogoi has contributed several scripts as the documentary for the
Doordarshan Kendras. He is also a regular contributor to the All India
Radio. He also directs documentary films for reputed institutes including
Sahitya Akademi.
